Beth Rochford, Lisa Levy, and Paddy Lindley
The role of District Council was created to give the community an opportunity to have a voice in policing. We are running to make sure the focus is on police accountability, public safety, and alternative response programs that are proven to improve community wellness. In its first years, we have witnessed that the district councils that have worked together are more effective and that's why we are running as “The Team for 17”.
Each of us are fully committed to working together and to hold space for the community to discuss their thoughts and concerns about policing and public safety. We are committed to do everything necessary to realize the vision of the role of District Councilor and to community co-governance, ensuring our work is transparent and accessible to you, our neighbors!
Lisa Levy
I am a retired Chicago public school teacher with over 35 years of service. I have taught English, Spanish, ESL, and special education. I was the union delegate for ten years in different schools. I organized strikes, walk outs, walk ins, filed grievances, and organized the school buildings. I am a veteran member of 33rd Ward Working Families, and have worked on several political campaigns. I am also a licensed mental health counselor and have advocated and worked on campaigns for Treatment Not Trauma, Bring Chicago Home, and many other community issues. I consider myself a political activist and have participated in more protests than I can count.
Patrick "Paddy" Lindley
I moved to Chicago in 2013, after growing up in Southern Illinois and attending UIUC. I've worked for 13 years in IT consulting and support, spending most of that time supporting state and local government IT teams.
I hopped around for a few years before landing in my Old Irving Park "forever" home in May 2021. I quickly found community through progressive electoral campaigns, volunteering as an election judge since 2022, and joined mutual aid support groups for arriving asylum seekers in 2023.
I have organized with and volunteered for the Bring Chicago Home and Treatment not Trauma policy campains, circulated petitions for an end to pretextual traffic stops, helped organize a Town Hall highlighting the deficient investiation into CPD-employed Oath Keeper militia members, and have volunteered with the Far Northwest Side Rapid Response Network. I was a Peace Circle volunteer from 2024-2026 in the Avondale Restorative Justice Community Court, and I have been an regular attendee at the 17th District Council's monthly and special meetings since 2023.
Elizabeth "Beth" Rochford
I am a lifelong Chicagoan with a Masters of Science in Nursing and a retired Nurse Practitioner. My community organizing home is with ONE Northside where I helped to write the ECPS ordinance that created the CCPSA and the District Councils. I have served the last 3+ years as one of the 17th District Councilors. My background in healthcare has helped me to see how systems and not just individuals impact safety and policing, which in turn has led me to fight for structural change.
